What is "Act on CO2"?
This is a government campaign aimed at helping consumers reduce carbon emissions. Act on CO2 or "Actonco2" is the branding for information to help the public tackle climate change. It began in the spring of 2007 and brings together the efforts of Defra and the Department for Transport in this area. There is a calculator at Directgov's Act on CO2 calculator which takes a general approach to a household's emissions from all sources. For car specific advice there is a multimillion pound campaign linking to The Department for Transport's guide to reducing co2 from your car. This includes advice on better driving and choosing a car but does not go into much detail. The top ten listings by "What Car? class" are closely watched by the car manufacturers but are not that helpful to car buyers who mainly buy on price, capacity and brand.
How Comcar can help you to act on CO2
Company car drivers can use a wide range of tools like the Car chooser to identify the range of vehicles that fit their requirements for price, economy, performance and size and then be guided towards the lowest emitting and least taxed vehicles. Private car buyers should try Coolestcar which does not mention company car tax, but presents a similar range of tools. The Engine selector for instance allows instant comparison of the car you might be considering with any cars of the same model that are more efficient and cheaper to run.
